Sustainability - why it’s important and why we’re committed to getting it right

Putting sustainability at the forefront of everything we do is a crucial consideration for AllSfär - our aim has always been to minimise the negative impact our business has on the environment.

More and more of us have become increasingly aware of the importance nature plays in helping us to feel calm, tranquil and grounded and we’ve all read the statistic that just 20 minutes out in nature everyday helps to reduce stress and boost wellbeing.

Sounds good right? BUT as we know our planet is currently on a Code Red as UN Secretary-General António Guterres explains following the publication of the IPCC report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). “Today’s report is a Code Red for humanity. The alarm bells are deafening, and the evidence is irrefutable: greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel burning and deforestation are choking our planet and putting billions of people at immediate risk.”

We believe we all have a role to play in trying to revert the climate catastrophe we’re heading towards and that the construction sector in particular can have a huge impact on changing course.

According to WRAP, the construction industry is the UK’s biggest consumer of natural resources, using around 400 million tonnes of materials every year, which leads to over 100 million tonnes of waste – that is approximately a third of the UKs’ total yearly amount.

We do not want our business or our products to be part of this ongoing waste, which is why we have put sustainability at the forefront of everything we do.

All our products are made with at least 60% recycled PET from post-consumer waste. Yes, PET is a plastic but compared to other common acoustic materials, it has a much better environmental profile and can itself be recycled at end of life so will not end up in landfill.

As designers and architects you need to be confident about where products come from, how and who makes them and where the impact they have on the environment, which is why we have invested heavily over the past 18 months in having our products independently assessed for both their function, provenance and environmental impact. You can find is the Green Book Live as well as on Quiet Mark’s Acoustics Academy and as a company we are ISO 19001 and 14001 accredited, so you can be confident when specifying our products you’re also doing your bit to help the planet.
