Interior Options - Mitsubishi Electric Europe

Client: Mitsubishi Electric Europe

Designer: Interior Options

Scope: Office refurbishment of European HQ in Uxbridge

Having previously worked with the team at Interior Options on various projects, we were more than ready to collaborate with them again on this key project for Mitsubishi Electric, one of the world’s leading names in the manufacture and sale of electrical and electronic products and systems worldwide.

Interior Options were tasked with creating a welcoming, collaborative space that would entice staff back to the office which not only looked and felt good but had to deliver on sustainability and a whole host of other practical requirements. We knew this scheme could not be design of style over substance.

A key feature of the design was to create a range of spaces to accommodate individual focus work as well as spaces for informal meetings, collaboration and ideation and getting the acoustics right was paramount.

Interior Options chose a variety of our thoughtful acoustic products for this scheme including Őra 3D wall coverings, Pop lampshades and Tex acoustic wall tiles in warm, pastel colours that helped to create a sense of calm throughout. The flexibility of our products meant that we were able to deliver acoustic comfort to a wide range of areas within the space, no matter how large or small, making a real difference to how people feel using each area. Őra 3D wall coverings were used in both sail and semi-circle design to create acoustic comfort in booths and meetings rooms. Tex acoustic wall tiles were used with a V Cut for added visual interest and colour and our POP acoustic lampshades were installed in collaborative areas to enhance acoustic comfort and privacy.

Sustainability was a key consideration for this project and is an issue that is also very important to us. All our products contain at least 60% recycled PET from recycled plastic bottles and are designed and manufactured in our factory in Watford. PET is a very sustainable material with superb acoustic properties, our products do not contain any proscribed or restricted substances To help our customers make clear comparisons between our products and similar ones on the market, we have invested in Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) which quantify environmental information on the life cycle of our products. Our International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) accreditations also ensure we meet customer needs within statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product or service. In choosing to install our acoustic products, Interior Options can be confident that they are using sustainable accredited Made in Britain acoustic products that will not harm the planet or the people working in the spaces.
This project had quite a challenging timescale of 30 days to completion and Interior Options did a great job of managing the 35 manufacturers working on the scheme whilst minimising disruption to the end client. Our flexible approach and willingness to work closely with the wider team contributed to the project being completed on time and to budget.

"I wanted the office design to strongly emphasise employee wellbeing, with dedicated spaces for socialising and relaxation and sit-stand desks furnishing further choice in their work surroundings. The acoustics were fundamental to getting the feel of the spaces right, and we couldn't have achieved the results we did without the great support and expertise of the team at AllSfär.

With the total weight of the Interior Options team pulling together in collaboration with our trusted suppliers and AllSfär, we were uniquely positioned to create a truly one of a kind space for Mitsubishi, which I am incredibly proud of." Katie Hardy
