When CBRE relocated its Birmingham office to the landmark 3 Chamberlain Square development, OP was tasked with creating a flagship workplace that reflected the company's position as a global leader in commercial real estate. The brief was to deliver a workspace that celebrated Birmingham's architectural heritage while providing a contemporary environment that supports collaboration, wellbeing and day-to-day productivity.
Inspired by the building’s distinctive architecture, the interior brings together warm natural materials, curved forms and carefully considered detailing to create a workplace that feels welcoming, timeless and unmistakably connected to its surroundings. Alongside the visual design, achieving the right acoustic performance was an essential part of the project, ensuring every space could comfortably support everything from focused work and private meetings to larger collaborative and social settings.
Working closely with OP, CBRE and acoustic consultants Sandy Brown, AllSfär provided a range of acoustic solutions that balanced performance with design. During the design development, detailed acoustic calculations and performance analysis were carried out, while we worked collaboratively with the wider project team to ensure the spaces achieved the required acoustic criteria while remaining true to the original design vision.
Throughout the workplace, our bespoke Grid ceiling system has been used as a defining architectural feature. Installed across collaboration spaces, meeting rooms and breakout areas, the custom-designed Grid creates a striking visual rhythm overhead whilst helping to absorb unwanted sound and reduce reverberation. The open cell design works seamlessly alongside the exposed services and integrated lighting, adding depth and texture to the ceiling without compromising the contemporary industrial aesthetic.
Within the open-plan office, Breeze acoustic baffles help create a calmer working environment by reducing reverberation across larger spaces. Suspended alongside the exposed ceiling, the baffles contribute to the clean architectural language of the interior while supporting speech clarity and improving everyday acoustic comfort for employees.
Meeting rooms throughout the project feature Öra V wall panels, introducing subtle texture and acoustic absorption where clear communication is most important. The linear pattern complements the wider interior design scheme, providing an understated backdrop that enhances the space without distracting from it, whilst helping to create comfortable environments for conversations, presentations and collaborative working.
By integrating acoustic performance from the earliest stages of the project, the workplace successfully balances functionality with design. Every acoustic solution has been carefully considered as part of the wider design vision, demonstrating that high-performance acoustics can become an integral feature of the interior rather than simply an additional requirement.
The completed workplace provides CBRE with a flagship office that not only reflects its brand and Birmingham’s unique character, but also creates an environment where employees and visitors can work, collaborate and meet in comfort. Through close collaboration with OP and the wider project team, AllSfär helped deliver a workplace where acoustic performance and architectural design work hand in hand.
